GESTURES TRANSFORMED
(1997)
During the time that I was photographing under water
I was also exploring in my studio.
I started regarding photographs as objects that could
be used as words in a sentence or like beads in a necklace.
The actual surface and edge of the photograph disturbed
me so I began to dissolve edges by projecting images,
making polaroid transfers, painting, cutting and pasting.
Photography was a way for me to melt the ingredients
into a unified soup. Ultimately the surface and edge
always remain but the texture began to change as well
as my attitude of preciousness about photography and
the actual print.
